Concordia's College of Business & Communication Moves Onward & Upward
[Written by Dr. Abigail Pfiester, Director of the College of Business & Communication]
Wrapping up a wild year, the College of Business & Communication (COBC) at Concordia University Texas could not be more optimistic about the future. Despite the challenges the pandemic created, we looked beyond the present hurdles and focused on the horizon.
Adding Faculty
We hired two outstanding professors to round out the COBC team.
The Honorable Daniel Guerrero, MSLC, is a native of San Marcos, Texas. He completed his undergraduate degree from Texas State University and his master's degree from St. Edward's University. He is currently working on his doctorate in Leadership and Higher Education from St. Edward's University.
Guerrero served as the mayor of San Marcos for six years and is currently a gubernatorial appointee to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. He will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate management classes at Concordia, leveraging his experiences in local government, leadership development, and global business.
We also welcomed Rev. Dr. Gerard Bolling to the college. Bolling earned his bachelor's degree from Concordia University Chicago, his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, and his Doctor of Education from Concordia University Wisconsin, specializing in leadership and innovation.
He is our first fully remote faculty member, and he teaches online leadership and theology classes. Bolling also serves as a Teaching and Learning equity officer. Simultaneously, he serves as an urban Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Growing Programs
The COBC has also added a fifth concentration to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. Collaborating with the Kinesiology faculty, the college will launch a Sports Administration concentration in Fall 2021.
The concentration will prepare students for careers in the growing markets of youth and professional sports. They will greatly benefit from Concordia's proximity to multiple Austin-based teams and organizations, such as Austin FC, a new Major League Soccer team, and Round Rock Express, a minor league baseball team.
The new concentration will join our current BBA concentrations: Accounting and Financial Management, Global Healthcare Policy and Management, Human Resources and Management, and Marketing.
Pandemic aside, it has been a year of growth in the College of Business & Communication. As we move onward and upward, we look forward to the 2021-22 academic year.
