Student Financial Planner

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Financial Planner serves students, parents and staff through the Office of Student Financial Planning.  This position works on a broad array of student account and financial issues including but not limited to: student accounts, financial aid, veteran benefits, third party billing, payment plans, refunds and financial literacy. 

 

POSITION FUNCTIONS   

  • Provides information on a variety of topics related to student accounts and financial aid to students, parents and staff, via various communication methods, including phone, email and in person 
  • Assesses student needs and proactively engages students in financial planning related to their college experience; facilitates resolving balances and set up of payment plans for current student accounts 
  • Serves as primary point of contact for students, parents, staff and third party vendors in accurately receipting, recording, refunding and balancing tuition payments
  • Provides information and guidance in the areas of Department of Veteran Affairs educational benefits and eligibility to veteran population.
  • Reviews appropriate documentation required for certification of students’ Department of Veteran Affairs education benefits. 
  • Works closely with Student Academic Planners, Financial Aid and Accounting Office to research, resolve and/or redirect student disputes and appeals.  Handle a variety of student situations and disputes using tact, diplomacy and patience
  • Monitor accounts receivable and aging balance reports for all programs; ensure necessary communications and procedures are executed to achieve minimal AR 
  • Monitors Title IV overages for student refunds
  • Conduct student tuition and billing audits.  Review and determine resolution for fee and tuition waivers
  • Provides backup assistance to the Student Central Manager – Financial Planning  as needed
  • Conduct financial aid informational presentations during orientations and special events
  • All other duties as assigned

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required
  • One to three years of accounting, cashiering, or related work experience in higher education setting is preferred.
  • Experience with Financial Aid advising and processes
  • Knowledge of US Department of Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits is preferred.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate large workloads in a timely and effective manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships within the office, university and external agencies 
  • Strong customer service skills are essential
  • Experience with Banner or similar Student Information System preferred
  • Ability to articulate and model the Concordia University Texas mission, vision and values

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional moderate lifting, 25 pounds.
