POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides supervised personal counseling and assessment for students, which is related to personal development and contributes to academic and personal success. This counselor will also provide educational and outreach programming for Counseling Services. The anticipated start date for this position is January 2025.
Essential Job Functions:
Assessment and Counseling:
- Provide supervised psychological assessment of student needs
- Ability to diagnose mental health disorders and educate students about those disorders
- Refer students to available university or community resources.
- Provide supervised brief individual and group counseling to students of Concordia.
Community Education and Training:
- Assist in providing leadership to the campus community in all areas of mental health, including assisting in developing and supervising programs in:
- Suicide Prevention training
- Mental health awareness
- Alcohol/substance use awareness
- Other areas as requested
- Assist site supervisor in outreach and additional program development related to all counseling services.
Supervision
- Meet with site supervisor weekly to review cases
- Work with site supervisor and/or Clinical Supervisor for case consultation, education and coordination of client care.
Administrative:
- Maintain record-keeping for the functions of the Counseling Center and generate reports of students served.
- Stay abreast of best practices and trends in the counseling field especially as they pertain to university counseling centers.
Keep timely and accurate clinical records and supervision hours as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Required Education/Certification:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or related field of study
- Fully professionally licensed including (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker) OR
- Licensed as a LMFT-Associate, LPC-Associate or Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Texas AND under supervision with the appropriate supervisor within two months of beginning employment with Concordia
- Professional licensure must be maintained for duration of employment
Demonstrate some experience in offering:
Required
- Brief individual therapy
- Crisis intervention
- Care coordination
- Case management
Preferred
- Substance use disorder treatment
- Couples Counseling
- Group Counseling
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must self-identify as a Christian, actively participate in a Christian congregation, be focused on the psycho-social- spiritual growth of students.
- Knowledge of modern counseling practices and methods, specifically with regard to the developmental issues of college students.
- Knowledge of and adherence to existing professional ethical standards.
- Knowledge of relevant regional, state and federal statutes.
- Ability to form and maintain effective professional counseling relationships, to monitor movement in the therapy process, and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Ability to actively engage in an institution that is aligned with the theology and doctrine of the LCMS
- Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities.
- Ability to provide counseling services to diverse populations including international students, non-traditional students, and veterans.
- Able to establish priorities and multi-task to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work congruently within the mission of the university.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational and program development skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications.
Working Conditions:
- Work around standard office equipment and conditions
- May be expected to work some weekends and evening hours
