Leading the Charge: CTX Brings Women’s Flag Football to Texas
Concordia University Texas is excited to announce the addition of Women’s Flag Football to our athletic program, making us the first university in Texas to offer this rapidly growing sport at the collegiate level. This milestone reflects our commitment to expanding opportunities for female athletes and creating an inclusive campus environment.
To ensure our team is prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead, we’ve outlined the following season timeline designed to build a strong foundation for long-term success and growth.
Season Timeline
Spring 2025: Pilot Program – We will launch an initial pilot program to build the team's foundation and introduce our athletes to the competitive landscape of collegiate flag football.
2026: Club Status – The program will evolve into a club sport, offering more structured competition and opportunities for students to engage in this dynamic sport.
2027: Varsity Sport – By 2027, Women’s Flag Football will officially become a varsity sport at CTX, with full participation in conference play and the potential to compete at the highest levels of collegiate athletics.
Meet the Coaches
Leading our new program are two highly accomplished coaches, Keenan Hughes as Head Coach and Kaden Hughes as Assistant Coach. Both bring extensive experience from their leadership roles with the Texas Fury Flag Football Organization, where they achieved national recognition and developed top-tier talent. Keenan has guided teams to six national championships, while Kaden has been recognized by the NFL and USA Football for his coaching excellence.
"Concordia University Texas will become the first university in Texas to offer Women’s Flag Football as a collegiate sport,” said Keenan Hughes. “This is a great achievement for our University and the state of Texas.”
“Having Women’s Flag Football at CTX will enhance campus diversity in athletics and strengthen the University’s commitment to inclusivity and sportsmanship,” said Kaden Hughes. “We’re proud to be the first in Texas to offer this opportunity.”
