Finding Her Place Early On

When Sarai Garcia first arrived at Concordia Texas, she wasn’t sure how long it would take to feel comfortable. Through Trailblazers, it started to feel like home much faster than she expected.

Being part of the program helped her connect with people right away. She met students from all over Texas and even from different parts of the country. Those connections made a huge difference. They helped her feel more grounded, more confident, and more open to experiencing everything campus has to offer.

What is the Trailblazers Program?

Trailblazers is designed to help new students build community from day one. Through shared experiences, peer connections, and guided campus engagement, students gain the confidence to navigate college life while forming meaningful relationships that last beyond their first semester.

Students in the program may also be eligible for a Trailblazers scholarship, along with access to specialized workshops, career support, and campus resources that strengthen both academic success and personal growth.

Learning How to Stay on Track

As the semester has gone on, one of Sarai’s biggest goals has been staying on top of her assignments. She quickly realized how fast things can pile up if you’re not paying attention.

One thing that has helped her is staying organized. Using a planner and breaking things into smaller tasks has made everything feel more manageable. Instead of stressing about everything at once, she focuses on what’s right in front of her.

Advice for First-Semester Students

Sarai encourages new students not to stress too much. College can feel overwhelming at first, especially when everything is new and happening all at once.

She recommends having a system to stay organized. Whether it’s a planner, a phone, or another tool, keeping track of assignments and responsibilities can make a big difference.

She also emphasizes the importance of balance. There are many exciting events happening on campus that are worth attending, but making time for studying and homework is just as important. Finding that balance is what makes the college experience more enjoyable.

Focusing One Step at a Time

One of the biggest lessons Sarai has learned this semester is to focus on one assignment at a time. She used to feel overwhelmed when she had a lot to do, especially if tasks were left until the last minute.

Now, she takes things step by step. This approach helps her do better work and feel less stressed overall.

To stay motivated, Sarai has also developed a simple reward system. After finishing an assignment, she treats herself to something small, like a sweet treat. Having something to look forward to helps her stay focused and push through challenging moments.

Making Memories That Matter

Outside of classes, Sarai is excited about making new memories this semester. One moment she is especially looking forward to is supporting the softball team, particularly because it is her friend’s last season playing.

Being able to show up, cheer her on, and be part of that moment is something Sarai deeply values.

She is also continuing to strengthen her time management skills. While she has already seen growth in this area, she knows there is still room to improve. Her goal is to stay productive while still making space for the experiences that matter most.

Growing Into What Matters Most

This semester has helped Sarai shift her priorities in meaningful ways. She has become more focused on herself, her education, and her commitments to her church.

Through this growth, she has developed a clearer understanding of what matters most to her. Trailblazers played an important role in that journey by helping her feel connected early on and giving her a strong foundation.
